ALGIM Awards for council sites

Congratulations to Far North District Council and Dunedin City Council on their ALGIM Web Awards, presented at the ALGIM Web Symposium at Wellington on Monday, May 4.

Far North District Council won the ‘Best Redevelopment Website’ award, for the Council's main Internet site at www.fndc.govt.nz. The website was built on the MySource Matrix CMS along with the Council’s intranet, and was launched in November 2008. Staff from the Council’s web team and Squiz New Zealand worked together to implement the sites, which are now managed by the Council, supported by Squiz.

Dunedin City Council won the ‘Best New Feature’ award, for their Job Vacancy system. The system was implemented in MySource Matrix by the Council’s own web team.

“Innovation through Citizen Centric Governing” seminar

Squiz and the Chair of E-Government at Victoria University of Wellington are running a seminar on “Innovation through taking a citizen centric approach in government and governing”.

To tackle the complex problems we face as a society, governments are increasingly aware of the need to collaborate with other organisations and individuals. By focusing on shared outcomes and dealing with the citizen as a ‘begin-user’, rather than an ‘end-user’ in designing policy solutions, collaborations between government and citizens can lead to innovative, empowering solutions.

Date: 14 May 2009
Time: 5.00 - 7.30pm
Location: Victoria University of Wellington, Pipitea Campus, RWW 501 (Railway Station)
Cost: FREE
Enquiries and registrations: Are by invitation only and space is limited. To attend contact Fran Denton, by email fdenton@squiz.co.nz or phone 04 805 0098 extn 862

MySource Matrix release update

MySource Matrix versions 3.20.4 and 3.22.0 were released on Monday May 4.

New feature: video file asset

A new Video File asset, contributed by Nic Hubbard, has been added to the Matrix core (versions 3.23.0 development, 3.22.0 stable, 3.20.4 stable). Like the MP3 File asset, this asset uses the getID3 third-party application. The supported video extensions are: .mov, .avi, .wmv, .asf, .flv, .mp4, .m4v, .mpg, .mpeg . Video metadata is extracted by getID3 upon upload and these can be overridden and extracted again from the 'Details' screen.

The Bulk File Import Tool has also been amended to automatically create Video File assets when uploading files manually or from the server which match any of the supported file extensions.
